Many people who get interested in starting their own internet business get turned on to drop shipping. I am a firm believer in drop shipping and have had numerous successful websites where all the items I sold were drop shipped from the distributor. For those who may not know, drop shipping (or dropshipping) is shipping merchandise you sell to your customer directly from the supplier, eliminating the need to keep costly overhead and rent storage space to keep your products. When properly ran and advertised, these websites can be very successful, making thousands of dollars of profit each month.
But starting your own drop shipping business can be very overwhelming. Many people fail to profit due to a lack of knowledge on the subject and the unwillingness to market their website. I would like to provide you with a few starting points and tips if you are planning on beginning your own home based internet drop ship business. Hopefully I can speed up your learning curve, help you bypass the pitfalls that I went through, and get you off to a quick start in your venture.
Nowadays there are numerous ways to get started in the drop ship business. Searching the internet to get started can be exhausting and is filled with fly by night websites wanting to pocket your money; fully knowing you will never succeed with their so called lists and websites. There are several easy ways to start your business and I will list the three easiest and most promising ways to begin.
1. Drop ship sourcing directories – Sourcing directories are internet websites that provide their subscribers with a list of suppliers and their merchandise that you as the subscriber can resell to your customers. A reputable sourcing directory will provide support, constant updates to their suppliers and merchandise, and educational resources for their subscribers to learn the in’s and out’s of marketing and selling the merchandise through your website and online sales portals such as eBay and Amazon. These directories can be a great tool for beginners and experienced website entrepreneurs because they handle all the research of finding legitimate wholesalers and suppliers, eliminating the people who are middlemen claiming to be the wholesaler. A word of caution when using a sourcing directory is to make sure you are finding niche products to market that have not saturated the internet market. You also want to find products that are not sold at your neighborhood big box store for dollars less. The great thing about these sourcing directories is that they have plenty of products to choose from. A good directory will provide you 1 million plus items to choose from. I was able to start a website drop ship business a few years back selling inflatable furniture. This site would produce over $1500 monthly with minimal work.
2. Drop ship sourcing directories that include website packages – There are a few drop ship source directories who provide everything described above, but also include websites with hosting in order to provide you an all-in-one package to get started. This option can be a great choice for people who are just starting their online adventure because you can easily stock your store with the items you want to sell and do not have to worry about adding them to another website or building a website from scratch. This can save a lot of time and money when starting and you do not have to be web savvy. There are several reputable sourcing directories we have reviewed that I would recommend trying if you are interested in this route. 3. Finding your own drop shipper and building your own website – This way is definitely the most time consuming and would not recommend this for the beginner. There are a lot of companies you can find through the internet that will drop ship for you but you have to really research. One of the problems you run into when going this route is you don’t know if they are true suppliers, if they are going to have items in stock and keep you updated of their stock, and whether the business will even be open tomorrow. The benefits of using a sourcing directory is they have already researched the companies they provide you and keep up with their inventory. Another issue for the beginner is you have to have some basic web knowledge to build a website, get your site listed in the search engines, and stock your website with your inventory. This can be costly and time consuming, sometimes takings months before you even open your virtual doors.
All three of the options are available for you to start making money from the internet. Many people open a website but forget about using places like Amazon and eBay to supplement their drop ship income. Many people find the cheapest drop ship list and have no success due to buying a bad product.
