Sick of having to pay monthly subscription fees to sign up for a drop shipping service? Tired of having to pay huge sums to access a wholesale list? You’re not the only one. Drop shipping is a frustrating business and can be extremely difficult if you don’t know exactly what to do. The good news is that real, legitimate wholesale sources are completely free. You read that right. No real wholesaler or drop shipper will charge you anything to sell their products. After all, why should you pay to sell their stuff?
Most people who fail at drop shipping do so because they are not working with legit suppliers. They tend to go for the popular middleman operations that they find on the first pages of Google. These companies claim to have all the hottest name brand products at rock bottom wholesale prices. All you have to do is pay a monthly subscription fee and you get full access. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately, these are middlemen. They make money by getting in between you and the real wholesalers. They source products from real wholesalers and manufacturers, then mark up the prices and charge subscription fees. In this relationship, they are the only ones making money.
To actually make money in dropshipping, you need a legitimate product source, and a solid business plan. You can’t just list items for sale and expect people to buy them. Rather than going to Google and trying to sell the same stuff as everyone else, find yourself a solid niche supplier and build your business around it. Finding a supplier can be hard, but it’s possible if you know where to look. Instead of looking in a search engine, try going to a trade show. Try calling a manufacturer and asking they drop ship. If not, ask if they have a wholesale supplier that does. Try searching for inventory management companies. There are tons of legit free drop shipping suppliers out there, but they don’t advertise in the search engines. They don’t want to work with every person who searches Google for “drop shipping supplier”.
A real legitimate source will not work with you unless you are a legitimate business. This means you need a tax ID and a resale certificate. If they don’t ask for these things, they are not a real wholesaler. Period. Do yourself a favor and do some initial research before jumping head first into drop shipping. You’ll thank yourself later when you’ve saved a boat load of time and money. Going with the most convenient source will almost certainly land you in hot water later on.
